Fina Oil & Chemical Co., Dallas, is pressing development of more than 200,000 acres of surface and mineral interests in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes in southeastern Louisiana.

The company plans to drill a well this summer in Terrebonne Parish to a Miocene Robulus objective slightly shallower than the Miocene zone that produced at a well Fina completed last spring.

Fina also has indications of a successful completion at a well in Bayou Chauvin field and is drilling another well in Bayou Jean La Croix field.

It is also a 50-50 partner in a wildcat, permitted to 20,000 ft, to be operated this year by Louisiana Land & Exploration Co. 3 miles north of East Lake De Cade field.

Fina's interests are centered 15-25 miles southwest of Houma.

MIOCENE COMPLETION

Fina opened gas/condensate production last spring 2 miles southeast of Lake Pagie field at 1 Fina LaTerre 27 (cover photo), in 27-19s-15e.

The well's objectives were sand packages between 14,500 ft and 16,500 ft, said Steven Mueller, exploration manager, South Louisiana division. It found about 30 ft of net pay in Lower Middle Miocene Textularia W 3 sand, topped at 14,832 ft.

Initial test rate was 9.5 MMcfd of gas and 1,166 b/d of condensate from perforations at 14,832-942 ft through an 18/64 in. choke with virgin flowing tubing pressure of 8,414 psi.

The well has been producing about 9 MMcfd of gas, 800 b/d of condensate, and 100 b/d of water since going on production in June 1990.

Gross reserves from the well likely are 5-10 bcf, Mueller said.

Fina is the operator with a 46% working interest. Partners are Tex/Con Oil & Gas Co., Houston, and Grace Petroleum Corp., Dallas.

Lake Pagie field was discovered in 1958. The well is on a separate fault block in an area of upthrown three way closure.

OTHER EXPLORATION, DEVELOPMENT

LL&E plans to spud in April at 1 LL&E Fee, 34-18s-1 6e, a wildcat on the Lake Theriot prospect 8 miles north of Lake De Cade.

The wildcat is permitted to 20,000 ft to assess postulated deep closure in Middle Miocene Bigenerina Humblei and beneath.

Meanwhile, Fina reached total depth of about 13,800 ft in mid-March and is preparing to complete 1 Fina Fee C, 74-18s-18e, in Bayou Chauvin field southeast of Houma.

Preliminary data from two 2-3 hr tests indicates production of about 3 MMcfd of gas from Y sand and 230 b/d of oil from X sand.

The well is primarily for development, but Fina drilled it deeper into Textularia W aged LL and MM, where it encountered sands but no pay. This was encouraging and might lead to more drilling to the deeper horizons, Mueller said.

Fina is drilling 1 Fina Fee D, 32-19s-20e, in Bayou Jean La Croix field toward a projected true vertical total depth of 13,750 ft.

Bayou Jean La Croix field was discovered in 1951 and Bayou Chauvin field in 1959.
