Arkoma basin operators are pressing exploration and development programs along the Choctaw fault in Pittsburg, Latimer, and Atoka counties, Okla.

Peko Oil USA, an affiliate of Santos Ltd. of Australia, plans to drill as many as 25 Arkoma wells during 1990, including several Arbuckle prospects, from what it calls the "sizable Tex-Pek prospect portfolio."

Peko said Tex-Pek Arkoma Basin Partnership, formed in late 1987, has finished drilling 41 wells, of which 27 are productive.

Peko produces a net 25 MMcfd of gas from the area with the potential for significant increases during 1990, it said.

The partnership, with Texaco Inc. and Texaco Producing Inc., in -mid-February was drilling five wells, including 1-29 Burnett Estate, a planned 18,000 ft wildcat to Cambro-Ordovician Arbuckle limestone in far southwestern Pittsburg County.

Amoco Production Co. plans five wildcats in the basin this year.

Mobil Oil Corp. staked a 19,600 ft Arbuckle wildcat, 1 Green Bay Packaging, in LeFlore County. Location is about 1 0 miles south of Red Oak-Norris field and 2-3 miles south of the Choctaw fault.

Meanwhile, ARCO Oil & Gas Co. is said to have made its second Arbuckle discovery in Pittsburg County at a well about 6 miles northwest of the company's nearest Arbuckle gas production in Wilburton field.

ARCO's 1 Browne, in Northeast Adamson field about 15 miles east of McAlester, flowed commercial gas volumes from below 12,000 ft in 1989, said Petroleum Information Corp. (PI), Denver, quoting an unspecified, nonoperator source (see map, OGJ, Jan. 9, 1989, p. 17). ARCO declined comment last week.

In Arkansas, Southwestern Energy Co., Fayetteville, Ark., listed reserves at three wells on the Fort Chaffee Military Reservation near Fort Smith, and Arkla Exploration Co. staked another wildcat east of production in the basin.

TEX-PEK PROGRAM

Most of Tex-Pek's 1990 wells will delineate and develop discoveries the partnership operated or in which it held interests.

Several delineation wells will offset Amoco's 1 Zipperer, in which Peko's working interest is 29.67%. The well was the dual Pennsylvanian Spiro and Wapanucka gas discovery for South Hartshorne field (OGJ, Aug. 7, 1989, p. 20).

A west offset to the 1 Zipperer, Exxon 1 Elliott Davis, is being dually completed. The well, in which Peko's interest is 20.68%, flowed a combined 25.6 MMcfd of gas on potential test from Spiro and Wapanucka pays.

Peko said the Tex-Pek 129 Burnett, spudded last October, will evaluate one of several excellent Arbuckle prospects held by the partnership. Peko's interest is 53.03%.

Peko has a 22.41% interest in Amoco operated 1 McEntire, in West Wesley field of Atoka County.

Amoco, which has the remaining interest, said the well flowed 9.5 MMcfd of gas through a 24/64 in. choke with 2,775 psi flowing tubing pressure from Spiro-Wapanucka below 7,900 ft, where the well encountered 62 ft of net productive pay.

Texaco's 1-1 J.A. Goddard, in which Peko's interest is 63.9%, was turned to sales Jan. 17 and is expected to stabilize at 7-8 MMcfd of gas. The Pittsburg County well extends Southwest Haileyville field 1 mile south.

OTHER OPERATIONS

Oklahoma completions are occurring rapidly in the basin.

Amoco completed 1-A Tschappat Unit, confirming 1-A Garrett Unit, its 1 year old discovery well in Pittsburg's South Haileyville field.

The 1-A Tschappat Unit flowed 5.2 MMcfd of gas from Pennsylvanian Spiro sandstone perforations at 9,61648 ft. A completion attempt in deeper Pennsylvanian Cromwell was unsuccessful.

The 1-A Garrett Unit was completed in Spiro at about 13,200 ft and Cromwell at about 13,900 ft. The zones delivered more than 1 bcf of gas during February-October 1989, Pi reported.

Exxon, active at several locations along the basin's southwest-northeast producing trend, plans to drill to 14,400 ft or Cromwell at 1-F H&H Cattle Co., 2 miles southeast of 1 Zipperer.

BTA Oil Producers, Midland, Tex., staked 1 Mabry, a 14,000 ft Cromwell wildcat located 2 miles south of Wilburton field.

In the field, the 10 ARCO operated Arbuckle wells have flowed a cumulative 63.3 bcf of gas through October 1989. That includes 12.6 bcf from 2 Yourman, the late 1987 Arbuckle deeper pay discovery in the field.

ARCO is completing its 11th Wilburton Arbuckle producing well.

ARKANSAS ACTION

Activity is picking up on the Arkansas side of the basin, too.

Southwestern said three deep tests completed last month in Hollis Lake and Bonanza fields of western Arkansas will add 32.7 bcf of reserves.

The wells produced gas from Siluro-Devonian Hunton, and one also flowed gas from Spiro (OGJ, Jan. 1, p. 31).

Arkla staked 1-27 Davidson in White County, Ark., 7 miles southeast of its 1 Simpson, a Pennsylvanian Hale sand gas discovery and the basin's easternmost commercial well (see map, OGJ, Feb. 12, p. 24).

Projected depth is 8,500 ft to Hale and Devonian Penters chert.
