Phillips 66 Co. has finished building Plant Six the first of three polyethylene plants it hopes to complete at its Houston Chemical Complex by mid-1992 to replace 1.8 billion lb/year capacity lost in an accident that occurred in October 1989.

Plant Six with design capacity of 600 million lb/year, is scheduled to have its first unit on stream this month. Planned start-up for the second unit is in November.

Construction of the 600 million lb/year Plant Seven has begun. Phillips plans to have that plant complete in mid-1991. Plant Eight is scheduled to start up in mid-1992.

When all three plants are on stream, Phillips will have restored the capacity it had in place or under construction before the Oct. 23, 1989, explosion at HCC.
