ALTERNATE FUELS TESTS PLANNED

ANR Pipeline Co., General Motors Corp., Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will conduct a 4 year alternate motor fuels research project. The project will chart emissions, costs, and performance of compressed natural gas, ethanol, methanol, liquefied petroleum gas, and reformulated gasoline in 65 state owned ,vehicles.

The project will chart emissions, costs, and performance of compressed natural gas, ethanol, methanol, liquefied petroleum gas, and reformulated gasoline in 65 state owned ,vehicles.

Researchers first will test environmental and economic benefits of CNG in Southwest Wisconsin. Wisconsin will buy 12 medium duty GM trucks, converting six to CNG and keeping the others as a control group using unleaded gasoline. A second phase entails testing ethanol in the Eau Claire, Wis., area.
