A horizontal well drilled by Hamilton Bros. Oil & Gas Ltd. will double production from Crawford oil field, one of the smallest in the U.K. North Sea. Hamilton Bros.' 9/28a-16 horizontal well, drilled to 8,450 ft true vertical depth, 11,200 ft measured depth, by the Sedco 703 semisubmersible in the east part of the field, flowed 6,900 b/d through a 72/64 in. choke. It has been suspended and will be tied back to the Northsea Pioneer floating production facility soon.

Crawford, in 370 ft of water 190 miles northeast of Aberdeen, is producing about 5,500 b/d of oil from four wells. The field went on stream in April 1989. Production has tailed off after peaking at 11,000 b/d.

It was Hamilton Bros.' first horizontal well in the North Sea. The company drilled 2,000 ft of horizontal hole in the Triassic reservoir.
