New Zealand's Petrocorp Exploration Ltd. is stepping up exploratory drilling in Central Thailand after finding oil and gas in its onshore concession there.

Petrocorp 1 Bo Rang flowed 5.5 MMcfd of gas from pay at 2,113-42 ft 6 miles east of the town of Wichian Buri in Petchabun province. Total depth was 5,512 ft.

Petrocorp has suspended the well and plans further testing of the Block SW 1 gas strike, the first in the area.

The company had been on the trail of oil after drilling an oil and gas strike in the same area in 1988. Its 1 Wichian Buri flowed 480 b/d of waxy crude and 3.6 MMcfd of gas about 162 miles north of Bangkok (OGJ, Aug. 8,1988, p. 30). The earlier well was drilled to 7,560 ft.

Petrocorp is mobilizing the Deutag T31 rig to spud the second well in its current $3 million, three well program on Block SW 1. Its 1 Si Thep is projected to 4,429 ft about 15 miles south of 1 Bo Rang.

The third well, 1 Khao Leng, will be drilled just northwest of 1 Bo Rang.

Petrocorp still is targeting crude oil potential on the 970 sq mile block, where it has spent $6.5 million on exploration to date. Its 1 Si Thep will be the fifth well drilled on the split block in Petchabun and Lop Buri provinces.

Operator Petrocorp holds a 57.5% interest in the concession. Other interests are held by Nimex Resources, Bermuda, and Kirkland Resources (Holdings) pic, U.K., 15% each and Northern Michigan Exploration Co. 12.5% (OGJ, Jan. 16, 1989, p. 22).
