Two more western companies are doing business with Soviet geophysical data.

Halliburton Geophysical Services Inc. and Dalmornefetegeofizica Trust, a subsidiary of the Soviet Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry, agreed to a joint venture to acquire 2D seismic data in the Chukchi Sea. The companies will work in areas of interest to international oil companies using a Soviet geophysical vessel equipped with Halliburton Geophysical Services equipment.

International oil companies reviewed the project last week in Houston.

Meantime, Gibson Consulting, Golden, Colo., began an industry sponsored analysis of magnetic data for the entire Soviet Union.

The analysis is designed to assist foreign companies in planning for oil and gas exploration in the U.S.S.R.

The study is a basement tectonic interpretation of published aeromagnetic data that will be integrated with surface and subsurface geological information.

The work will include a computerized database of information on more than 650 oil and gas fields in the U.S.S.R. Planned completion date for the study is December 1990.

The project, which is supported by one U.K. and one Japanese company, is open to more participants.

Other companies assisting with dissemination of Soviet exploration related information include Professional Geophysics Inc., Houston, and Jebco Seismic Ltd., London (OGJ, Mar. 19, p. 15).
