Texaco Latin America/West Africa and partners have tested another oil discovery off Angola.
Texaco's 1 Bagre flowed 34.6-36.8 gravity oil at a combined rate of 13,488 b/d from five zones in Cretaceous dolomite at 9,130-9,640 ft. The group is assessing the discovery's potential for development.
It was drilled to 11,086 ft measured depth in 72 ft of water on the 1 million acre Block 2 about 7 miles off Angola's northwest coast and 200 miles north of Luanda.
The well is 7 1/2 miles south of Raia oil and gas field, discovered on Block 2 in June 1988 and currently under preliminary development (OGJ, July 18, 1988, p. 27).
The Texaco group operates other fields on Block 2 under a 1980 production sharing agreement with Angola's state owned Soc. Nacionale de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol).
Since the early 1980s, the Texaco group has operated Essungo and Cuntala fields, and both are on production in the northern portion of the block.
In late 1987, the group started production from East Lombo, Tubarao, West Sulele, and South Sulele fields in the southern corner of the block.
Texaco last fall reported a 6,100 b/d strike, 1 Tamboril, on the block (OGJ, Oct. 16, 1989, p. 40).
Texaco holds a 20% interest in the block. Its partners are Petrobras Internacional SA and Total Angola, each with 27.5%, and Sonangol 25%.
