GUIDE TO WORLD CRUDES: BP updates assay for Angolan Saturno crude

Based on a sample taken Feb. 4, 2014, BP PLC has published an updated assay of its Saturno Blend crude oil, which is the marketing name for production from Plutão, Saturno, Venus, and Marte (PSVM) fields in the ultradeepwater area of Block 31 off Angola (OGJ Online, Jan. 31, 2013; Feb. 4, 2009; Nov. 24, 2003; Mar. 17, 2003).

Based on a sample taken Feb. 4, 2014, BP PLC has published an updated assay of its Saturno Blend crude oil, which is the marketing name for production from Plutão, Saturno, Venus, and Marte (PSVM) fields in the ultradeepwater area of Block 31 off Angola (OGJ Online, Jan. 31, 2013; Feb. 4, 2009; Nov. 24, 2003; Mar. 17, 2003).

The four fields, located within about 18 miles of each other, are tied back to a 157,000-b/d floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, from which Saturno Blend is directly exported.

Production from PSVM began on Dec. 6, 2012, with the first cargo of Saturno-branded crude offloaded from the FPSO on Dec. 25, 2012, according to a Jan. 31, 2013, release from BP.

BP Exploration (Angola) Ltd. acts as operator of Block 31 and holds a 26.67% interest. Other interest owners include Angola's state-owned Sonangol EP (25%), the block's concessionaire; Sonangol P&P (20%); Statoil Angola AS (13.33%); Marathon International Petroleum Angola Block 31 Ltd. (10%); and SSI Block 31 (5%).
