EXPLORATION & DEVELOPMENT BRIEFS

Thailand

Coastal Energy Co., Houston, has cased its Bua Ban North B-02 exploratory well in Thailand after it cut 62 ft of net pay in the Miocene objective with 26% average porosity.

The well also cut 150 ft of net sand with 19% average porosity in the Eocene interval. The Eocene sand zone was wet as it was not a target in this well and was drilled off structure.

The Eocene zone delivered the highest reservoir quality sands the company has seen to date in the Eocene interval, supporting its thesis of higher quality sands in the shallower Eocene and boding well for the planned drilling of shallower Eocene prospects to the northwest, Coastal said. TD is 6,513 ft true vertical depth.

Coastal set conductor pipe at the B-03 well, which is testing the Miocene in a separate fault block due east of B-02.

Vietnam

BHP Billiton and Mitra Energy Ltd. have spud the first well in a two-well program on Blocks 28 and 29/03 in the Nam Con Son basin off southern Vietnam.

The Ho Vang 29/03-HV-1X well is being drilled on Block 29/03 using the Seadrill Offshore Resolute jack up. Planned total depth is 2,420 m true vertical depth subsea. The second well, Bao Dom May 28-BDM-1X, will follow to a proposed 3,325 m TVD ss.

BHP Billiton is operator of the production sharing contract and holds 50-50 interests with Mitra Energy.
