New software helps optimize unconventional field recovery

New KINGDOM 8.6 software introduces microseismic data analysis integrating information gathered during completions into the interpretation work flow to improve recovery in unconventional fields.

The company says its program allows geoscientists, engineers, and managers to work together in the same software. Unconventional fields require geoscience teams to work more closely with engineers at the wellsite during drilling and completion operations, the firm points out. To help these remote teams collaborate more seamlessly, whether they are exploring or developing shale plays, tight sands, or coalbed methane, KINGDOM 8.6 integrates multidisciplinary data sets to make interpretation of unconventional resources easier, and to get companies productive faster.

Optimizing development in unconventional reservoirs is often difficult due to the ultralow permeability and abnormal pressure variation across layers, the firm notes. To help ensure that the production rates of wells are sufficient to maintain economic viability, hydraulic fracturing jobs need to be accurately contained within the pay zone and the formation contact area must be maximized, the company adds. This new integration technology includes advanced microseismic analysis and visualization of real-time fracturing in 3D to enable real-time learning and insights into fracture design for subsequent wells.

The software also introduces other capabilities such as a reengineered fault surface modeling capability, advanced horizon picking tools, improved analysis of production data, and simplification of velocity modeling work flows.

New drilling service

New SonicScope 475 multipole sonic-while-drilling service provides multipole measurements to deliver compressional and shear data in all environments.

The new logging-while-drilling service features a dedicated mode for acquiring Stoneley wave forms while drilling to help ensure high-quality data before washouts can develop. SonicScope compressional and shear data, with the Stoneley wave acquisition, enable the assessment of rock mechanics and characterization of fractures. This is crucial especially in the North American shale plays for designing complex completions to optimize future production, the company says. In addition, a while-tripping mode provides multipass analysis and top-of-cement evaluation.

Multipole sonic-while-drilling data help to reduce drilling uncertainties providing critical inputs for real-time drilling geomechanics evaluation.
