Red Spider Technology Ltd.,

Aberdeen, has appointed John O'Hara sales manager for North America, as part of a continuing global growth strategy. O'Hara joins the company with 12 years experience in business development within the deepwater oil and gas industry, particularly in downhole intelligent completion products. Based in Houston, he will focus on promoting Red Spider's patented remote open/close well intervention and completion technologies to operators in the region. He joins North and South Americas sales manager Gary Smith to focus on growth in the region.

Red Spider recently received £7.5million in growth equity to accelerate internationalization of the business and complete commercialization and rollout of its remote open/close well intervention and completion technologies.

FMC Technologies Inc.,

Houston, has signed a contract with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) to build a world-class technology center in Brazil. FMC's Brazil Technology Center will be located on campus at UFRJ Technology Park in Rio de Janeiro, an area that has been designated as the hub of the country's future oil and gas technology developments. The building will contain engineering offices, technical training and design areas, research and development laboratories, and the capability for full-scale prototype integration and testing of subsea systems. Construction of the center will begin in July; it is expected to open in first half 2011.

FMC Technologies designs, manufactures, and services technologically sophisticated systems and products, such as subsea production and processing systems, surface wellhead systems, high-pressure fluid control equipment, measurement solutions, and marine loading systems for the oil and gas industry.

Petris Technology Inc.,

Houston, has joined the OpenSpirit Business Partner program to deliver additional data management, interoperability, and workflow solutions. Adding the OpenSpirit solution to the Petris library of adaptors provides Petris customers with the broadest range of adaptors for workflow integration in oil and gas exploration and production. At the same time, OpenSpirit customers will now have access to the advanced data management capabilities provided by PetrisWINDS Enterprise, a powerful, web-based application for accessing and managing E&P data across various data stores.

Petris is a leading supplier of practical data management solutions and geosciences applications to the global energy industry. Petris data management solutions integrate information from diverse data stores, including managerial, seismic, borehole, production, drilling, and pipeline.

OpenSpirit Corp., Stafford, Tex., is an independent software company focused on providing integration solutions for upstream applications and data that allow interoperability among multiple vendors' applications and data.

CARBO Ceramics Inc.,

Houston, has purchased all the intellectual property rights and trademarks for Fracpro fracture design modeling software from the Gas Technology Institute. The purchase will allow continued development of the FracproPT software program, along with additional well stimulation programs that complement the technology. FracproPT is the most widely used fracture design modeling software in the world. It is used to design and optimize hydraulic stimulation operations

CARBO is the largest supplier of ceramic proppant for fracturing oil and gas wells, a provider of fracture simulation software, and a provider of fracture design and consulting services. The company also provides a broad range of technologies for spill prevention, containment, and countermeasures, along with geotechnical monitoring.

Reef Subsea AS,

London, has appointed Mark Preece CEO. He previously was senior vice-president of business development and marketing at Acergy SA. Preece has also held senior positions at Bibby Line, Technip, Coflexip Stena Offshore, and Stena Offshore. He is a master mariner with an MBA from Henley Management College, and before taking on management roles, worked offshore as a ship's master.

In February 2010, GC Rieber Shipping and Hitec Vision Private Equity entered into a joint venture resulting in Reef Subsea AS. GC Rieber Shipping transferred its investments in Technocean AS (including its subsidiary Scan Mudring AS) and Bluestone Offshore Pte. Ltd. to the new venture. Bluestone provides deepwater geotechnical services. Technocean is a subsea construction and engineering contractor. Scan Mudring provides project planning and performance for the removal or relocation of seabed soil worldwide.

Sulphco Inc.,

Houston, has reached agreement with Enterprise Products Operating LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enterprise Products Partners LP, to validate its Sonocracking technology at a commercial scale. SulphCo will install a mobile Sonocracking unit at Enterprise's NGL fractionation plant at Mont Belvieu, Tex., to evaluate the commercial-scale performance of the technology on the plant's natural gasoline streams. The unit was to be installed by mid-July, with commercial-scale evaluations to follow for 8-10 weeks.

SulphCo is the developer of a patented ultrasound process to desulfurize and hydrogenate sour, heavy crude oils, and various petroleum products.

Wood Group's Alliance Engineering,

Houston, has opened an office in Canonsburg, Pa. to serve the Marcellus shale region and has hired Jim Albitz as its general manager to run this office. Albitz will be responsible for expanding the office as Alliance increases its business in the Marcellus shale region and other areas. He has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, with extensive experience in project management, engineering, and construction management, most involving projects in the Marcellus area. Albitz has managed compression, pipeline, and storage projects in the Marcellus region. He has a BS in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Alliance Engineering provides concept-to-completion custom engineering and design solutions for the oil and gas industry.

John Wood Group PLC provides a range of engineering, production support, maintenance management, and industrial gas turbine overhaul and repair services to the oil and gas and power generation industries worldwide.

HB Rentals,

Houston, has named Troy Roussel vice-president of its US land division. Roussel has held various management roles in operations, health/safety/environment, and business development. Most recently, he served as business development director for an international remote site management company, where he worked with a team focused on developing long-term client relationships, tenders, and contract negotiations. He previously was general manager overseeing all aspects of business operations for one of the company's subsidiaries. Roussel will temporarily be based in HB Rentals' Broussard, La., office. He has a master's in environmental management from Louisiana State University with and a bachelor's in industrial technology.

Houston, has signed a multiyear contract with Seahawk Drilling Inc., Houston, to provide managed remote communications for its fleet of offshore rigs. RigNet will provide fully-managed VoIP, FoIP, data, and Internet access services across the entire Seahawk fleet.

Basic services provided by RigNet include installation of the rig communications infrastructure for hardware, including cabling, phones, modems, and fax machines; software; voicemail and other added-value features; bandwidth and network connections; testing and training; long distance and local calls from remote locations; and year-round, 24-hour live monitoring and technical support. Seahawk is also utilizing RigNet's TurboNet service to improve the speed and performance of software applications running over highly latent satellite links and designing and managing Seahawk's wide area network.
