Two TNK-BP subsidiaries let contracts worth a total of more than $60 million to Petrofac Ltd. for management services in development of giant Kovykta gas-condensate field and related pipeline construction in eastern Siberia.

Rusia Petroleum, operator of Kovykta field, hired Petrofac of Woking, UK, to provide project management services for the engineering, procurement, and construction of gas production facilities and a condensate-loading system. The facilities are to have a capacity of 2.5 billion cu m/year. TNK-BP owns 62.7% of Rusia Petroleum.

Under a contract with OAO East Siberian Gas Co., Petrofac will provide project management services for the design and construction of a 645-km pipeline extending from Kovykta processing facilities to the city of Irkutsk.

Pipeline gas deliveries are expected to start by yearend 2006. A transportation and trading company, East Siberian Gas was established to implement the Irkutsk region gasification project, TNK-BP said.

Total Kovykta development and pipeline project costs are projected at $1.1 billion. Kovykta was discovered in 1987 and is one of Russia’s largest gas fields, TNK-BP said.

Kovykta is 450 km north of Irkutsk, in the central part of the Irkutsk Region, in the Zhigalovo and Kazachinsko-Lensk Districts. The reserves are 2 trillion cu m of gas and more than 83 million tons of condensate.
