Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, has announced a new president and a new chief financial officer.

John Richels was named president of Devon. Previously, he was senior vice-president of Devon and president and CEO of Devon Canada. He joined Devon in 1998.

Richels succeeds James T. Hackett, who was president and chief operation officer of Devon until he left last month to become president and CEO of Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston (OGJ Online, Dec. 4, 2003).

Christopher R. Seasons, executive vice-president of Devon Canada, succeeds Richels as Devon Canada president.

Brian J. Jennings has been appointed chief financial officer of Devon, effective Mar. 31.

Currently, he is senior vice-president, corporate finance and development. He has been senior vice-president since 2001. He joined the company in 2000.

Upstream moves

Apache Corp., Houston, has promoted John Christmann to vice-president, business development, and Kregg Olson to vice-president, corporate reservoir engineering.

Christmann joined Apache in 1997 and has served in various business development positions. Most recently, he was production manager, Gulf Coast region. Previously, Christmann was employed by Houston-based independent Vastar Resources Inc., now a part of BP PLC.

Olson started working for Apache in 1992, and has served in various corporate reservoir engineering positions. He has served as director, technical services, since 1995. Olson previously worked for Grace Petroleum Corp.

Apache reported that Lisa Stewart, executive vice president, business development and exploration and production services, has resigned from the company to work for Houston-based El Paso Corp. as its president, production and nonregulated operations.

Bakersfield, Calif.-based Berry Petroleum Co. has promoted Joyce Holtzclaw to exploitation team leader for California assets, a new position within the company.

Previously, Holtzclaw was senior production engineer. She also is the recent past director for the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Western North American region.

Before joining Berry in 2002, Holtzclaw worked at ChevronTexaco Corp. as a senior engineer.

Vancouver, BC-based Terasen Inc. has named Stephen Swaffield senior vice-president, corporate development. Swaffield previously worked for Toronto-based corporate and investment bank RBC Capital Markets.

Teresen also promoted Gordon Barefoot to senior vice-president, finance, and chief financial officer. Prevously, he was senior vice-president, multiutility services.

David Bryson has been appointed treasurer. Formerly, Bryson worked for BC Gas Inc.

Calgary-based Bow Valley Energy Ltd. has appointed Matthew L. Janisch vice-president, finance, and chief financial officer.

Janisch has nearly 20 years of experience in banking, corporate finance, capital markets, and oil and gas research. Most recently, he served as managing director of oil and gas equity research for a major Canadian bank.

Westport Resources Corp., Denver, has named Allan D. Keel vice-president and general manager of the company's Gulf of Mexico division.

He has more than 20 years' experience in the oil and gas industry. Keel previously worked for Westport from 1996 to 2000.

Other moves

El Paso Corp., Houston, has named Mark Leland chief financial officer, production and nonregulated operations.

He has been with the company for 18 years, most recently as senior vice-president and chief financial officer of El Paso Field Services, the parent company's midstream business.

Leland also was chief operating officer of GulfTerra Energy Partners LP, Houston, which is in the process of merging with Enterprise Product Partners LP, Houston (OGJ, Dec. 22, 2003, p. 40).

Kaneb Pipe Line Co. LLC, Dallas, has named Michael L. Rose chief operating officer.

Previously, he was president of Kaneb subsidiary Statia Terminals International NV. Kaneb focuses on midstream energy assets.

Rose has almost 35 years of energy industry experience, including petrochemical and refinery operations, as well as petroleum product trading experience.

Constellation Energy Group, Baltimore, Md., has announced that Andrew L. Good has joined the company as vice-president, finance, a recently created position.

Good reports to E. Follin Smith, senior vice-president, chief financial officer, and chief administrative officer. Smith recently became chief administrative officer.

Previously, Good was with the GE Capital division of General Electric Co.

Constellation Energy supplies electricity to large commercial and industrial customers. It delivers electricity and natural gas through Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., a regulated utility.

Chaparral Resources Inc., White Plains, NY, has announced that Jonathan S. Wood has been promoted to vice-president, finance, and chief financial officer.

Wood succeeds Richard J. Moore, who resigned. Previously, Wood was finance director of the closed joint stock company, Karakudukmunai (KKM), Chaparral's operating subsidiary in Kazakhstan. He has been with KKM since 1998.

Chaparral's only operating asset is its development of Karakuduk field, of which Chaparral is the operator through KKM. Chaparral owns 60% interest in KKM, and joint stock company KazMunayGaz, a government-owned oil company, holds 40% interest.

Central Asia Industrial Holdings, a private investment holding company, holds a majority interest in Chaparral.

The Small Explorers & Producers Association of Canada (SEPAC) has elected Dave Peterson, president and CEO of Grandir Resources Ltd., Calgary, chairman for 2004.

SEPAC represents more than 380 junior oil and gas companies.
