ConocoPhillips reported the appointment of Kevin Meyers, currently president of ConocoPhillips Alaska, as president of ConocoPhillips's exploration and production operations in Russia and the Caspian Sea region.

Meyers began his career in the petroleum industry with ARCO Exploration & Production Technology in 1980 and as served in a number of positions in ARCO's operations in Texas and Alaska, including president and CEO of ARCO Alaska Inc. and senior vice-president of ARCO.

Following Phillips Petroleum Co.'s acquisition of ARCO Alaska, Meyers served as senior vice-president of Alaska production and operations and president and CEO of Phillips Alaska. He later was elected to executive vice-president of Alaska production and operations for Phillips, and following the ConocoPhillips merger, became president, ConocoPhillips Alaska.

Succeeding Meyers will be James Bowles who rejoins the company after retiring from Phillips Petroleum in 2002. During his tenure with Phillips, he served in numerous drilling and production assignments and was vice-president of the company's gas gathering and processing subsidiary, deputy managing director of the Norway division, and president of Phillips's Americas division.

Upstream moves

Thomas Thune Andersen has been named the new CEO of Mærsk Olie og Gas AS, Copenhagen.

Additionally, Jess Søderberg will become chairman and Michael Pram Rasmussen, vice-chairman of Mærsk.

BG Group PLC announced two new appointments to its executive committee.

Jorn Berget has been appointed executive vice-president, BG Advance.

Berget joined BG from Royal Dutch/Shell Group where he was regional production director for North and South America. Prior to this post he was general manager of Shell's northern business unit.

Peter Hughes will join BG Group at the end of the year as executive vice-president, group strategy.

Hughes joins the company from BP PLC where he most recently was vice-president, strategy and portfolio, for BP's gas, power, and renewables segment. He has also worked for the European Commission in Brussels and for Cambridge, Mass.-based Cambridge Energy Research Associates as senior director, European energy and PanEurAsia groups.

Houston-based EOG Resources Inc. has made several executive appointments.

Steven B. Coleman has been promoted to senior vice-president and general manager for the Tyler, Tex. division.

Previously, he served as vice-president and general manager of EOG-Oklahoma City.

Before joining EOG, Coleman held various engineering and production management positions with Exxon Co. USA.

Kurt D. Doerr has been promoted to senior vice-president and general manager-Denver. Doerr will direct EOG's E&P operations in the Rocky Mountain states and California. Doerr started his career as an engineer with Schlumberger Ltd. in 1978 and joined EOG in 1982.

Steve Weatherl was recently promoted to vice-president and general manager-Midland. Weatherl started his career with Exxon Co. USA in 1980 as an exploration geologist in Corpus Christi. He also worked for Pioneer Natural Resources Inc. and its predecessor companies during 1990-97, serving in various positions and ultimately as vice-president, domestic exploration.

He joined EOG in 1999 as exploration manager for the Midland office.

Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Tex., has elected Jerry Box as chairman to succeed Gary C. Evans, who will remain president and CEO of the independent producer until he retires in April 2005.

Box has served on Magnum's board since March 1999. He is the former president and chief operating officer for Oryx Energy Co. and has more than 36 years of experience in the exploration and production industry.

Davis Petroleum Corp., Denver, has appointed Mike McGuire as senior vice-president of its Rocky Mountain oil and natural gas operations.

Most recently, McGuire served as executive vice-president, exploration, for Prima Energy Corp., which was recently acquired by Petro-Canada.

Houston-based Harvest Natural Resources, Inc. announced James A. Edmiston as executive vice-president and chief operating officer.

Prior to joining Harvest, Edmiston was with Conoco Inc. and ConocoPhillips for 22 years in various management positions. Since 2002, Edmiston has been president, Dubai Petroleum Co., a ConocoPhillips affiliate company in the UAE.

Double Eagle Petroleum Co., Casper, Wyo., announced the appointment of Peter M. Mueller as chief operating officer.

Before joining Double Eagle, Mueller served as the vice-president and general manager of Denver-based Westport Resource Corp.'s northern business unit before Westport's June merger with Kerr-McGee Corp.

He also is chairman of the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.

He has worked for both majors and independents, including Amoco Production Co., Mobil Oil Co., Tenneco Oil Co., and Anadarko Petroleum Corp.

Whiting Petroleum Corp., Denver, has appointed Douglas Lang vice-president, reservoir engineering/acquisitions.

Lang joined Whiting in December 1999. Most recently, he served as manager of acquisitions and reservoir engineering. Lang has 30 years of acquisition and reservoir engineering experience including positions with Amoco, Petro Lewis Oil Corp., UMC Petroleum Corp., and Ocean Energy Inc.

Other moves

Giovanni Paccaloni became 2005 president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers during the SPE Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition.

Paccaloni takes over for outgoing SPE Pres. Kate H. Baker.

A 33-year veteran of the oil and gas industry, Paccaloni currently serves as senior advisor at ENI Agip's headquarters in Milan.

Tesco Corp., Calgary, appointed Julio Quintana as chief operating officer and it is proposed that Quintana also become a member of the board.

His most recent positions were with Schlumberger as vice-president, exploitation (North and South America), and vice-president and general manager, integrated project management.

Before working for Schlumberger, Quintana was with Unocal Corp. for 19 years holding various positions before becoming the company's deepwater and asset manager for its Midcontinent asset group.

American Refining Group, Bradford, Pa., named William F. Murray manager, crude oil operations, western division.
