PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Williams names Malcolm to top executive spot

Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, has named Steven J. Malcolm, the company's current president and chief operating officer, to the position of CEO. Malcolm succeeds Keith Bailey, who will retain his position as chairman until the May 17 shareholders meeting at which time he is expected to announce his retirement.

Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, has named Steven J. Malcolm, the company's current president and chief operating officer, to the position of CEO. Malcolm succeeds Keith Bailey, who will retain his position as chairman until the May 17 shareholders meeting at which time he is expected to announce his retirement.

Malcolm, who was named president and chief operating officer on Sept. 20, 2001, will continue his position as president. Williams does not anticipate filling the chief operating officer position.

Malcolm joined Williams in 1984. He served as senior vice-president and general manager of gathering and processing for the field services unit in 1994-96 and as senior vice-president and general manager of midstream gas and liquids during 1996-98. He was named president and CEO of Williams's energy services group in 1998.

Other moves

Newly formed Laredo Energy LLC, Houston, unveiled its senior management team, which has been staffed with several former executives of Houston-based Michael Petroleum Corp.

R. Graham Whaling, has been named Laredo's chairman and CEO. A cofounder of Laredo, Whaling previously served as chairman of Michael Petroleum and was former chairman and CEO of Monterey Resources Inc., Bakersfield, Calif.

Glenn Hart, former Michael Petroleum CEO, also cofounded Laredo and was named its president. He established Michael Petroleum in August 1982 and sold it in August 2001 to Calpine Natural Gas, Houston, a unit of Calpine Corp., San Jose, Calif.

Other members of the company's senior management team include Douglas R. Fogle, vice-president, engineering; Jerry F. Holditch, vice-president, geology; Robert L. Swanson, vice-president, finance and accounting; Scott G. Stevenson, vice-president, acquisitions; Mark R. Lange, vice-president, land; and Steven B. Jaques, vice-president, technology.

Ronald P. Nowak was named president and chief operating officer of Fortune Natural Resources Corp., Houston, and Tyrone J. Fairbanks was named chairman.

Fairbanks remains Fortune Natural Resources CEO. He also is the acting chief financial officer.

Nowak has more than 23 years of experience in oil and gas exploration. He was president and chief operating officer of TransTexas Gas Corp., Houston, during 1999-2001.

PetroQuest Energy Inc., Lafayetta, La., has appointed Stephen H. Green senior vice-president, exploration.

Since joining PetroQuest in September 1999, Green has served as vice-president of exploration and as business development manager. Green previously held positions with Ocean Energy Inc. and Newfield Exploration Co., both of Houston.

Southwestern Energy Co., Houston, has promoted Richard F. Lane to executive vice-president.

Lane was named senior vice-president, exploration and production, in February 2001, and served as vice-president, exploration, since February 1999. He joined Southwestern in February 1998 as exploration manager.

Before Southwestern, Lane worked for American Exploration Co. and Tenneco Oil Co., both of Houston.

David Boyce has been named director of domestic operations for Ness Energy International Inc., Willow Park, Tex.

Previously, Boyce was president of his own Oklahoma-based energy company.

Ness Energy said Boyce will develop the mineral rights on the company's leases in Edwards, Parker, Jack, Wise, and Tom Green counties.
