Interactive refinery guide
A new interactive guide for refineries gives a comprehensive overview of relevant industry standards, descriptions of relevant tests, and an overview of proposed measurement solutions.
The company notes that refinery labs are mostly working 24-hr shifts and are expected to provide data faster, to continuously decrease lab operating cost and to perform more analyses with the same complement of staff.
To provide a comprehensive overview over the manifold methods and relevant standards, this interactive refinery guide (www.mt.com/refinery-lab) details the refinery process including all product streams. The guide summarizes the respective standard procedures to be obeyed for each product and presents this firm's solution for each analysis. To assist lab managers with budgetary constraints, feature benefits of the solutions are explained, so that the value of updating a piece of kit can be clearly communicated to senior management.
In addition to the above, there is the option to download the ‘Petrochemical News Digest,' a booklet that contains applications and case studies, relevant to refineries and petrochemical laboratories, to support daily analysis tasks.

New guide for introducing gas from landfills to pipelines
The Gas Technology Institute (GTI) report, "Guidance Document for the Introduction of Landfill-Derived Renewable Gas into Natural Gas Pipelines," is available to the industry.
The integration of renewable gas from nontraditional sources can provide benefits including cost effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing available resources. GTI says. An initiative launched by GTI is establishing parameters for evaluating the suitability of biomethane products—derived from dairy waste and landfills—for safe and proper introduction into existing natural gas pipelines and to assure compatibility with existing supplies.
Sponsored by the natural gas industry, the US Department of Transportation, and members of the Solid Waste Association of North America, these projects have been adding to the industry's understanding of the chemical and biological composition of renewable gas.
The Landfill Guidance Document provides analytical and other data to pipeline companies and natural gas local distribution companies so that parameters specific to clean biomethane can be identified to support a productive discussion between these parties and the suppliers for contract development.
