New current-sensing switch

The ASXP current-sensing switch is now available with a user-adjustable set point of 1-80 amp.

Units are powered versions of the company's current switches with integral time delay. For use with 24 v AC/DC or 120 v AC supplies, these switches deliver accuracy, precision tolerances, low hysteresis, and an operation range of 40-100 hz—functionality suited for monitoring single and three-phase motors. They come standard with a solid-core enclosure and LED indicators for trip point contact status.

The ASXP's relay output allows the sensor to be used to control NEMA size 1 contactor coils and other inductive loads. A fixed 2-sec delay trip timer eliminates nuisance alarms due to start-up inrush or temporary overcurrent conditions in motor or heater status applications, eliminating the need for a separate time delay relay. After start-up a second 0-20 sec delay can be set to meet the needs of specific application requirements.

In motor protection applications, these sensors provide electronic proof-of-operation and detect current draw changes in the motor caused by pumps running dry or impending bearing failure. The ASXP serves as a nonintrusive alternative to differential pressure flow sensors or thermal switches.

Portable NORM monitor

A new naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) monitor is specifically suited to meet the requirements of the industry in detecting and quantifying naturally occurring radioactive isotopes.

The intrinsically safe TRACERCO NORM Monitor-IS's dual probe option helps optimize monitoring capability for all types of NORM including radium and lead-210 based scales. Having a Geiger Muller and a scintillator probe allows for NORM monitoring in every situation—wet and dry deposition or internal and external vessel monitoring. Both probes are intrinsically safe and, helpful to the harsh environments of upstream operations, have been designed to be robust.

The kit comes with a holster and belt and a transit case, allowing for hands-free storage and operation. The handset features one touch integration so when you measure low levels of radiation you can set a time limit, which improves the accuracy of the measurement.

Magnetic shutoff switch

Newly available TripMate 2012 is an update of the TripMate plunger arrival sensor for applications such as gas lift, stroke counting, proximity sensing, automation, piston timing, tank level control, and magnetic shutoff.

The magnetic induction switch penetrates through metal and nonmetal materials to sense metal objects moving past the switch.

The sensor is self-adjusting to provide sensitivity for plunger arrival detection. Internal self-calibrating circuits automatically adjust sensitivity for optimum sensor performance to provide a minimum 1-sec trigger pulse length.

A ½-in. male conduit port provides a simple interface for rigid and flexible ½-in. conduits to meet electrical code requirements. The unit provides two-wire and legacy three-wire hookup configurations. The three-wire hookup allows the sensor to be powered from a wellhead controller or automation equipment. Over time, battery power is supplemented by the third wire's power source connection. TripMate 2012 also features an internal lithium battery with a life expectancy of 7+ years.

Intrinsically safe, the sensor's high current switch rating, low resistance, and electrical isolation provide an arrival switch than can meet a range of control applications, the firm notes.

New controller centralizes display, alarm functions

The new ST-72 controller provides simultaneous display and alarm function for as many as 64 channels and I/O arranged in groups of 16 channels.

The device is easy to configure and user friendly, helping suit it for centralizing display and alarm functions in multipoint monitoring applications. The controller utilizes simple menu-driven setup, is wireless capable, and displays data on its color LCD as trends, bar graphs, and engineering units. The unit has four RS-485 serial ports for simultaneous Modbus master/slave operations and multiple masters.
