New connectors suited for land-based drilling rigs

Products are also compatible with all UL 1686 listed plugs and receptacles. They are UL, CSA, and NEMA 4X certified to provide a secure, reliable connection.

Featuring a high impact strength, copper-free, aluminum housing, connectors quickly and efficiently connect power during rig-ups and disconnect power during rig-downs. The firm says its connectors feature the industry's largest cable diameter range and are specifically designed, third-party tested and certified for use with Type P cable. All plugs also include a lockout feature that prevents unwarranted usage and complies with OSHA lock out/tag out requirements. This helps ensure that a plug cannot be inserted into a receptacle when maintenance is being performed downstream of the power supply.

Connectors also include insulator assemblies that offer unimpeded, easy-access phase and ground terminals to make wire termination quick and easy. Units come in 30, 60, 100, and 150 amp offerings. They include receptacles, plugs and connectors, and back boxes.

E&D software upgraded

Newly released Paradigm 2011.1 is an upgrade to the Paradigm 2011 exploration and development software made available last year.

This update expands the firm's offering on the Microsoft Corp. Windows 64 bit platform to include VoxelGeo, its voxel-volume interpretation solution, and WAM, its web asset manager for carrying out global queries on distributed data.

Users will be able to take advantage of new features in its SeisEarth display canvases, including support for pre-stack data along arbitrary traverses, posting of cumulative production data, and display of measurement-while-drilling/logging-while-drilling data in the 3D canvas. The release also introduces more flexibility in the import, storage, and creation of well plans, and adopts Santa Clara, Calif.-based NVIDIA Corp.'s Maximus technology to help improve computation times for seismic attribute generation.

Users of the company's seismic processing and imaging solutions will be able to apply its reverse time migration technology to anisotropic (TTI) models, extending the firm's portfolio of global and target-oriented seismic imaging capabilities. The release also introduces a new grid tomography solution that is not limited by data size constraints. Enhancements in the release support the application of full azimuth imaging and interpretation solution (EarthStudy 360) to shale resource plays.

The firm says that the GOCAD/SKUA modeling community will enjoy an improved user experience with performance enhancements in data loading for large projects, multipoint statistics realizations, flow simulation grid construction using SKUA, and the creation of simulation decks.

Tubular goods agreement

Surface Enhancement Technologies LLC, Fairfax, Ohio, has agreed to permit U.S. Steel Tubular Products Inc., Pittsburgh, to be the exclusive tubular products manufacturer to utilize low plasticity burnishing (LPB) patented technology that can be applied to a variety of oil field tubulars to improve their performance and extend their service life.

By utilizing LPB, U.S. Steel Tubular Products's pipe performance designers will be able to engineer an applied layer of high residual compression to any specific area of a tubular product.

LPB extends component life by creating a deep, stable layer of compression in part surfaces. The technology can be applied to a variety of alloys, including titanium, aluminum, nickel-based alloys, and steels.

Gas detection controller earns Canadian certification

The WX64 gas detection control panel (OGJ, May 7, 2012, p. 117) has been certified by Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and now carries the CSA mark of approval.

The tool has been certified as a signal appliance for use in Class I, Div. 2, Group A, B, C, and D hazardous locations according to CSA standards C22.2 No. 1010.1-92, 142-M1987, 152-M1984, 213-M1987, and UL 1604.

The sixty-four channel controller can accommodate nearly any combination of 4-20 mA, bridge sensor, ModBus RTU, ModBus TCP, and wireless inputs. In addition, it features a color display, data logging via 2GB SD Card, zoning, dual RS-485 ports, and programmable relays. The panel also has an embedded web page that enables remote viewing and configuring of all 64 channels via a standard web browser.
