Statoil ASA has let an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to IKM Ocean Design for Johan Sverdrup’s gooseneck spool and retrofit hot-tap tee. The contract was let on behalf of state-owned pipeline operator Gassco.

The gas from Johan Sverdrup in the Norwegian North Sea will be piped to Karsto through an 18-in. pipeline into the Statpipe rich gas leg with the aid of IKM’s hot tapping and connection to a 30-in. retro tee. Installation will be driverless, using hot-tapping equipment from a pipeline-repair-system based in Statfjord.

“We believe (IKM) will help us put in place a good and safe export solution for the field,” said Svein Birger Thaule, Gassco’s executive vice-president of asset management. The project also will ensure gas deliveries to the Karsto plant, Thaule said.

Gassco will serve as operator and technical manager of the 156-km pipeline from the riser platform on Johan Sverdrup to the Statpipe rich-gas leg once the field comes on stream in December 2019 (OGJ Online, June 19, 2015).

The Johan Sverdrup partnership includes Statoil, Lundin Norway AS, ASA Petoro, Det Norske Oljeselkap ASA, and Maersk Oil. The partners have chosen Statoil as operator in all phases of the field’s development (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2014).
