JSC Gazprom Neft reported completion of construction of the first production well at Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye oil field on the Gydan Peninsula in northern Russia (OGJ Online, Jan. 28, 2015).
The well had a total depth of 840 m and a horizontal section of 1,000 m. Gazprom Neft, the operator, said the well crossed “strata subject to abnormally high pressure and long-standing permafrost.”
Production drilling began after a 4-year pilot was completed earlier this year. Full-scale commercial production and 63 wells are expected in 2016.
Gazprom Neft and OAO Rosneft jointly control Messoyakhaneftegaz, which holds the licenses “for prospecting and development.”
