Eni SPA reported that an explosion occurred July 9 at the repair site for the Tebidaba-Clough Creek oil pipeline in Nigeria’s onshore Niger Delta.

The explosion resulted in the death of 12 members of the maintenance team from a local services company. Three others were injured. The line was previously damaged “by acts of sabotage,” the company said. Eni in May reported 13 spill incidents in Nigeria involving pipelines, flowlines, and a delivery line. Several of those incidents involved oil theft.

The causes of the incident are under investigation by both Eni and local authorities. Eni says it will release additional information as it becomes available.
