Junex Inc. has spudded the Galt No. 5 as a follow up to its Galt No. 4 that came in at more than 300 bo/d in January.

The operator deployed its Foragaz No. 4 rig to drill the Galt No. 5 to a total measured depth 2,500 m, half of which will be horizontal. The target is natural, near vertical fractures in the Forillon oil reservoir. The company hopes its new prospect will perform much like the Galt No. 4, which produced to surface with no additional hydraulic fracturing.

As the first in this most recent series of wells, Junex will acquire detailed 3D seismic data that will then be used to site its next two wells, Galt Nos. 6 and 7.

Houston-based firm Netherland, Sewell & Associates Inc. recently provided a best estimate of OOIP of 557 million bbl for the Forillon sandstone and Indian Point formations in Quebec. The operator’s net share of the recoverable resources is 55.7 million bbl of oil (OGJ Online, June 26, 2015).

The Galt project presently covers an area of 21,935 hectares in southeastern Quebec within the Gaspesie basin.
