Husky begins production at Rush Lake heavy oil project

Husky Energy Inc., Calgary, reported startup of production from its Rush Lake heavy oil thermal project in Saskatchewan, some 8 weeks after startup of commercial steaming operations (OGJ Online, May 21, 2015).

The Rush Lake project is expected to reach its nameplate production capacity of 10,000 b/d by yearend. Husky said three other thermal projects are under construction in the Lloydminster area with startups planned for 2016.

“Rush Lake joins an expanding lineup of thermal projects that are providing solid returns even in a low-price environment,” said Asim Ghosh, chief executive officer.
