The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board said it has provided “conditional approval” of a development plan by Husky Energy Inc. for the West White Rose extension in the Jeanne d’Arc basin.

The board’s 24 conditions for a fixed wellhead platform range from an iceberg management plan to the platform’s gas detection system to the equipment on the SeaRose floating production, storage, and offloading vessel. The board said the plan was also approved by the federal and provincial governments.

Husky said it continues to assess development options, including subsea.

Husky holds a 72.5% working interest in the main White Rose field, about 300 km offshore. It has a 68.9% interest in the satellite fields, which include North Amethyst, West White Rose, and South White Rose (OGJ Online, June 29, 2015).

Production commenced at the White Rose field in 2005.
