Erin Energy Corp., Houston, has received a 2-year extension until Dec. 31, 2018, for Blocks A2 and A5 offshore Gambia. The company holds 100% interest in both blocks, which lie 30 miles offshore.

Erin Energy has been active off Gambia since 2012. Blocks A2 and A5 have a combined surface area of 2,682 sq km in 50-1,200 m of water. They are in the Casamance-Bissau sub-basin that forms the southern part of the greater Senegal basin.

A2 and A5 are on trend with the recent FAN-1 and SNE-1 oil discoveries off Senegal by Cairn Energy PLC (OGJ Online, May 12, 2015). Both of these wells have proven petroleum systems associated with Cretaceous basin floor fans and shelf edge to slope clastic deposits. The company plans to further its 3D seismic acquisition to identify a viable drilling target.
