Statoil ASA has let a $156-million contract to ABB Group for land-based power supply to Phase 1 of the Johan Sverdrup field development.
The contract covers delivery of electrical equipment for a converter station by the Karsto processing complex at Haugsneset in the municipality of Tysvaer, and a power module on the riser platform at the Johan Sverdrup field center.
ABB will provide high-voltage direct current (HVDC) equipment that will transform the onshore grid’s alternating current (AC) to HVDC at the Haugsneset converter station before the current is transmitted in a 200-km-long direct current submarine cable to the field center.
Power on the riser platform will be transformed and converted to AC for field center operations.
Equipment will be delivered during first-half 2017. The total cost of power supply to Phase 1 has been estimated at $850 million.
Phase 1 will also include all preparations needed to meet power requirements of full-field development as well as other fields on the Utsira High by 2022.
The contract is subject to the Norwegian Parliament’s approval of Johan Sverdrup’s plan for development and operation, submitted in February by Statoil on behalf of the partnership (OGJ Online, Feb. 13, 2015).
Along with Statoil, which has been recommended as operator, the partnership consists of Lundin Petroleum AB, Petoro, Det Norske Oljeselskap ASA, and Maersk Oil.
Statoil also in February let a $1-billion contract to Aibel AS for engineering work, procurement, and construction of the deck for the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform (OGJ Online, Feb. 24, 2015).
