BW Offshore now reports five fatalities—all employees of BW Offshore—and four crew members missing following the Feb. 11 explosion of the Cidade de Sao Mateus floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (OGJ Online, Feb. 11, 2015).

There were 74 people onboard the FPSO, operated by BW Offshore for Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) in Espirito Santos basin about 120 km offshore Brazil. Gas production from postsalt Camarupim and North Camarupim fields was halted immediately following the explosion. Search and rescue operations continued into the night.

BW Offshore says the remaining crew are all accounted for and receiving medical care where needed. Two are in critical condition. Next of kin have been notified and all personnel are being attended to by a special support team established by BW Offshore Brazil. Most of the workers on the vessel were Brazilian nationals.
