Statoil ASA has awarded a contract to Kvaerner ASA for delivery of the riser platform jacket for the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian continental shelf. The contract is valued at 2 billion kroner.

Statoil, operator for Johan Sverdrup, said the jacket is scheduled for delivery in summer 2017 (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2014).

“Statoil has prepared an ambitious plan for development and operation, with scheduled start-up in 2019,” said Arne Sigve Nylund, executive vice president.

The first phase of field development includes the riser platform and platforms for accommodations, drilling, and processing.

The contract with Kvaerner Verdal is contingent on a February investment decision for Johan Sverdrup development, and is subject to the Norwegian parliament’s approval of the plan for development and operation.

Statoil seeks to recover 70% of Johan Sverdrup reserves over the expected life of 50 years. The field contains as much as 2.9 billion boe, 95% of which is oil and the rest, rich gas. At peak, production is expected to reach 650,000 boe/d.
