Senex Energy Ltd., Brisbane, has successfully tested a sidetrack of the 2007 Vanessa-1 gas discovery in South Australia’s Cooper basin as part of its bid to commercialize the field.

The production test recorded a flow of 5 MMcfd of gas and 15 bbl/MMcf of associated condensate from reservoirs in the Permian-age Epsilon and Toolachee formations.

The field is in permit PEL 182.

The company is now undertaking additional analysis to confirm the gas composition and the associated liquids.

The test result bodes well alongside the stable production of gas and liquids from nearby Hornet field, said Ian Davies, Senex managing director.

Vanessa-1 is 4 km from gas transmission systems in the basin. Senex holds 57% interest in the well, while Drillsearch Energy, Sydney, holds the remainder.
