Fire hits ORPIC’s Muscat refinery

A fire that hit Oman Oil Refineries & Petroleum Industries Co.’s (ORPIC) 106,000-b/d Mina Al Fahal refinery near Muscat, Oman, on Dec. 4 has been contained, the company said.

The fire, which broke out in one of the refinery’s naphtha treatment units, was extinguished through the cooperation of on-site and local government agency firefighters, with no serious injuries reported, ORPIC said in a Dec. 4 statement on its Facebook page.

The incident has not had any direct impacts on fuel supplies to Oman’s local market, and there has been no indication of any release of toxic substances that pose a threat to the surrounding area, the company said.

Neither a cause of the fire nor any details related to the incident’s impact on processing operations at the refinery were disclosed.
