AJ Lucas Group has formed a joint venture with specialist pipeline contractor Spiecapag to build APA Group’s Eastern Goldfields gas pipeline in Western Australia.

The contract forms part of APA’s $140 million (Aus.) plan to expand the existing Goldfields line and its delivery arc to the east to supply AngloGold Asghanti’s Sunrise Dam and Tropicana mines.

The 293-km connection will be made from APA’s existing Murrin Murrin pipeline.

The work will involve pipe trenching, pipe welding, pipe placement, and lay-in along with surface protection and remediation of the right-of-way. The JV will also handle associated infrastructure for the line.

The gas will be used to fuel electric power generation facilities at the mines. Machinery mobilization on site will begin in January 2015 and the project construction work will start in March. Completion is scheduled for November 2015.
