KUB-Gas LLC, a 30%-owned subsidiary of Houston-based Cub Energy Inc., has resumed its drilling program in eastern Ukraine by spudding the Makeevskoye-22 (M-22) well, confirming the improved security situation in and around the Makeevskoye, Olgovskoye, and North Makeevskoye licenses.
M-22 lies on the southwest side of the major fault running through the Makeevskoye and Olgovskoye licenses. The well is a near-offset to the M-2 well drilled in 1991, which tested 300 Mcfd from the S5 in the Serpukhovian section and is currently producing 272 Mcfd.
The primary target in M-22 is the S6 zone, which the company says has proven prolific in the M-16, M-17, and O-15 wells. Secondary targets also exist in the S5 and S7 zones.
Cub expects to drill, test, and complete the well over an 80-day period. In the event of a successful well, tie-in will follow shortly, as several flowlines were constructed earlier this year in anticipation of future drilling, the company says.
Cub in June 2013 spudded the North Makeevskoye-3 exploratory well, 10 km northeast of the Olgovskoye-15 gas discovery well (OGJ Online, June 3, 2013). At the time, the company reported holding 244,000 gross (180,000 net) acres of undeveloped land in Ukraine.
