Statoil has let a contract to Wood Group Mustang for preliminary work on a tension-leg platform proposed for Snorre oil and gas field in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea.

The contract is for pre-front end engineering and design for what would be the second TLP on the field, which has been on production since August 1992. The first TLP is the Snorre A integrated production, drilling, and quarters (PDQ) platform. Snorre B, a semisubmersible PDQ unit, came onstream in June 2001.

Statoil and partners decided on installation of a third platform last year as a way to extend field life (OGJ Online, Oct. 28, 2013).

The field is on Blocks 34/4 and 34/7 in 300-350 m of water. It produces about 85,000 b/d of oil from Lower Jurassic-Triassic Statfjord and Lunde sandstones encountered at 2,000-2,700 m.

Wood Group Mustang and Wood Group Kenny completed a feasibility study of the Statfjord C project last year.

Under the pre-FEED contract, Wood Group Mustang will handle project management, topsides design, and integration of the hull, drilling, and riser facilities. Wood Group Kenny will handle engineering of the production, injection, and drilling top-tensioned risers; the import-export flexible and umbilical systems; and subsea drilling template.

Snorre partners are Statoil, operator, 33.31%; Petoro, 30%; ExxonMobil E&P Norway, 11.58%; Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, 9.6%; RWE Dea Norge, 8.28%; Total E&P Norge, 6.17%; and Core Energy AS 1.03%.
