The US drilling rig count gained 9 units to reach 1,927 rigs working during the week ended Oct. 24, boosted by gains in Texas, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

An 8-unit increase in Texas to a total of 906 led the major oil-and gas-producing states, headlining a flurry of activity following several uneventful weeks. The Lone Star State was followed by a 5-unit addition in neighboring New Mexico to 103. West Virginia rose 3 units to 36. Up 2 units each, California, Ohio, and Arkansas have respective totals of 46, 44, and 12. Rounding out the increases, Alaska edged up a unit to 8 rigs working.

Oklahoma, with 204 units, was the only state not to budge from last week. It lost 7 units last week.

North Dakota, Louisiana, Colorado, and Utah each lost 1 unit to 180, 110, 75, and 23, respectively. Wyoming subtracted 2 units to 61. Pennsylvania dropped 3 units to 52. Kansas fell 4 units to 21.

The bulk of Texas’s gains came in the Permian and Eagle Ford, each of which added 7 units to reach 568 and 216, respectively. The Haynesville, meanwhile, dropped 3 units to 40.
