Surmont files OSCA application with AER for Wildwood oil sands project

Surmont Energy Ltd., Calgary, has submitted an Oil Sands Conservation Act application with Alberta Energy Regulator for its Wildwood steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project.

Surmont Energy Ltd., Calgary, has submitted an Oil Sands Conservation Act application with Alberta Energy Regulator for its Wildwood steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project.

Project site is about 65 km south of Fort McMurray (OGJ Online, Oct. 5, 2012). AER said the project would have a maximum bitumen production capacity of 12,000 b/d from the McMurray formation.

The project would include 2 initial well pads with up to 7 horizontal SAGD well pairs on each pad, and a central processing facility. Initial production is expected within 3 years after construction begins. Estimated life of the project is 24 years.

AER said it is reviewing the OSCA application along with an Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act application.
