UOP will supply its C4 Olefex processing technology to be used for a new unit at the complex that will be able to produce 170,000-tonnes/year (tpy) of isobutylene, a key ingredient for making high-octane fuel and synthetic rubber, Honeywell said.

UOP’s scope of work includes engineering, design, technology licensing, as well as providing catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, staff training, and technical service for the project.

The new unit is scheduled for start-up in 2016, Honeywell said.

SSLPC’s complex includes a 2.6 million-tpy microsecond catalytic cracking plant, a 1.6 million-tpy unit to convert LPG to aromatics, a 600,000-tpy gas separation plant, a 200,000-tpy polypropylene plant, a 100,000-tpy MTBE plant, and a 50,000-tpy sulfur recovery unit, according to the independent, integrated refiner’s website.
