Neste Oil Singapore Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Neste Oil Corp., has entered an agreement with National Oxygen Pte. Ltd. (Nox), a subsidiary of Japan’s Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corp., to install a carbon dioxide recovery and liquefaction plant at Neste Oil’s 800,000-tonne/year (tpy) renewable diesel refinery in Singapore.

Neste Oil Singapore Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Neste Oil Corp., has entered an agreement with National Oxygen Pte. Ltd. (Nox), a subsidiary of Japan’s Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corp., to install a carbon dioxide recovery and liquefaction plant at Neste Oil’s 800,000-tonne/year (tpy) renewable diesel refinery in Singapore (OGJ Online, Nov. 16, 2010).

Construction on the plant, which will process an average 40,000 tpy of CO2-rich gas from the refinery, is scheduled to begin during this year’s fourth quarter, Neste Oil said.

The recovery plant is intended to improve the refinery’s resource efficiency as well as make use of one of its sidestreams, which will be a valuable material for Nox, according to Jussi Hintikka, vice-president of energy at Neste Oil.

Neste Oil said it expects the CO2 recovery plant to be completed and fully operational by fourth-quarter 2015.

Details regarding the required investment for the project were not disclosed.

The company already captures direct CO2 emissions from its operations at its 205,000-b/d Porvoo refinery about 20 miles east of Helsinki, Finland. The refinery subsequently sells those emissions to a local gas company, Neste Oil said.
