CVR Refining LP, Sugar Land, Tex., has resumed normal operations its 115,000-b/d refinery at Coffeyville, Kan., following a fire in late July that led to the plant’s shutdown (OGJ Online, July 29, 2014).

The refinery resumed normal operations during the last week of August, which was within the company’s projected timeframe for the restart, CVR Refining said.

The company previously had notified state regulators that the Coffeyville refinery would be up and running again on or around Aug. 27 (OGJ Online, Aug. 15, 2014).

While CVR Refining also told state regulators it had decided to proceed during the repair period with refinery upgrades that originally were scheduled to occur next year, details regarding the nature of scheduled maintenance brought forward during the recent shutdown period for repairs were not disclosed.

Operations at the Coffeyville refinery were suspended on July 29 as a result of a fire that damaged the plant’s isomerization unit and distributive controls system.
