Edgo Energy, Amman, has secured licenses to two blocks in Tajikistan near the border with Afghanistan.

The production-sharing agreements cover the Qarordon (formerly Karadum) and Surkhsimo (formerly Kyziltumshuq) blocks.

The Surkhsimo block has produced gas and is connected by pipeline to Dushanbe. Wells on both blocks have tested gas and oil from post-salt strata. Edgo said the areas have deeper presalt potential.

The agreements provide for 7-year exploration periods beginning Nov. 18, 2013, and 30-year exploitation periods, extendable up to 10 years.

Klarenco, a Moscow firm with which Edgo has signed a service agreement, has completed an integrated review of geological, seismic, exploration, and well data in the areas.

A 2D seismic survey was shot over the Surkhsimo block in 2011.
