Eni SPA Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi met with Gabon President Bongo Ondimba in Libreville on Aug. 18 to outline the appraisal campaign programs aimed at bringing the Nyonie Deep natural gas discovery into production over a short period of time (OGJ Online, July 31, 2014).

During the meeting, Descalzi informed Ondimba that preliminary studies are under way to determine the commercial development of the gas in both domestic and export markets.

The discovery, drilled on Block D4, is initially estimated to hold 500 million boe. Eni credits the find to the company’s proprietary technologies specifically used in West Africa’s presalt basin.
