Statoil Petroleum AS has completed drilling an observation well on the eastern flank of Gimle field, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reported.
Gimle lies between Gullfaks and Visund fields in the northern part of the North Sea (OGJ Online, July 16, 2010).
NPD said the well was not formation tested, and limited data acquisition was carried out due to technical issues. The 34/10-C-18 A was drilled in 220 m of water to a vertical depth of 3,023 m subsea. Measured depth was 8,501 m.
The well encountered petroleum in the Brent Group, Statfjord Group, and Lunde formation. Preliminary calculations for the well indicate 0.2-1 million standard cu m of recoverable oil equivalent.
The well, drilled from the Gullfaks C platform, was plugged and abandoned and then sidetracked as development well 34/10-C-18 B in Gimle.
