Saudi Aramco has let a contract to Tecnicas Reunidas (TR) for the utilities and common-area project within the Jazan IGCC (integrated gasification combined-cycle) power plant in conjunction with a 400,000-b/d refinery under development at Jazan Economic City, Saudi Arabia (OGJ Online, Oct. 22, 2012).

Under the lump-sum turnkey contract, TR will develop the utilities and offsite installations for the IGCC complex, providing services for engineering, procurement, construction, precommissioning, and commissioning support for plant, TR said in a recent release.

The Jazan IGCC complex’s gasification unit will have a capacity to convert vacuum residue produced in the adjacent Jazan refinery into 2.11 million normal cu m/hr of syngas that will be evenly used to produce purified hydrogen for the refinery and to fuel the IGCC plant, according to TR (OGJ Online, Nov. 13, 2012).

TR said the IGCC plant will be operational in 2017.
