Brazil’s state-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) reported that it has completed drilling the last exploration well in the Transfer of Rights (TOR) area in the Santos basin presalt.

The well, 4-BRSA1226-RJS (4-RJS-728), the third drilled on the Entorno de Iara block, has confirmed the discovery of “good-quality oil” in the presalt reservoirs, Petrobras said.

The well, known as Entorno de Iara 3, was drilled to total depth of 5,875 m in 2,244 m of water about 241 km offshore Rio de Janeiro state.

The well confirmed the discovery of 27º API in carbonate reservoirs of excellent quality situated below the salt layer starting at a depth of 5,548 m, Petrobras said.

With the completion of this well, Petrobras has complied with the exploratory drilling activities provided for in the Mandatory Exploratory Plan, it said. Sixteen exploratory wells were drilled among the six areas of the TOR with a 100% success rate, it said.

Data obtained so far, Petrobras said, have allowed it to confirm the existence of the totality of the volume contracted by the company with Brazil’s federal government, which is 5 billion boe.
