Daybreak Oil & Gas Inc., Spokane, Wash., has drilled the first well in its 20-well development drilling program for the 2014-15 fiscal year at Twin Bottoms field in Lawrence County, Ky.

The Gerald Grove H-7 oil well was drilled to 4,734 ft measured depth and 1,209 ft TVD. Logs and other measurement data indicate the horizontal section of the wellbore encountered 3,284 ft of oil-bearing sandstone.

The drilling rig is being moved to the Gerald Grove H-8 location, which will be the second well to be drilled in the program.

“The Gerald Grove H-7 and H-8 oil wells will be hydraulically fractured concurrently to the drilling of the Gerald Grove H-9 and H-10 oil wells. As these wells are all within close proximity of each other, we should be able to put them on production very quickly after completion operations have ceased,” said James F. Westmoreland, Daybreak president and chief executive officer.

Daybreak owns an average 25% working interest in five producing oil wells and has 6,400 acres under lease in the Appalachian basin in Lawrence County.

App Energy in 2013 as operator drilled the Gerald Grove H-1 well, in which Daybreak has an interest, to 4,036 ft MD and 1,171 ft TVD. Logs and other data indicated the horizontal section encountered 2,588 ft of oil-bearing sandstone. App Energy said it planned to drill as many as five more wells by yearend (OGJ Online, Sept. 12, 2013).
