Williams Olefins LLC, a subsidiary of Williams Partners LP, said it intends to proceed with expansion plans at its Geismar olefins plant as the company continues to review the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s release of findings related to an investigation into a June explosion at the Geismar, La., site (OGJ Online, June 13, 2013).
While Williams confirmed it has received and still is carefully reviewing OSHA’s investigation findings and analyses, the company continues to execute its plan (OGJ Online, June 25, 2013) to rebuild, turnaround, and expand the Geismar plant by April 2014, according to a Dec. 11 release.
Repair and expansion work started following the June blast (OGJ Online, Aug. 6, 2013) remains ongoing, as does the company’s internal investigation into the incident, Williams said.
The planned April 2014 restart at Geismar will bring online an expansion announced in 2012 designed to increase the plant’s ethylene production capacity by about 50% (OGJ Online, Apr. 10, 2012; Jan. 4, 2012).
