MOL Group’s Kalegran Ltd. subsidiary declared commercial the Akri-Bijeel block in the Kurdistan region of Iraq based on two oil discoveries and tests that confirm long-term production sustainability.

MOL based the declaration on the Bijeel-1 Jurassic discovery and the Bakrman-1 Triassic find.

Early oil production could be resumed from the Bijeel-1B well in the first quarter of 2014, MOL said.

Following MOL Group’s announced discovery in the Bakrman-1 exploration well in February 2013, a 24-day production test in late July and August confirmed light oil and sour gas with maximum production rates of 3,192 b/d of oil and gas at 1,019 b/d of oil equivalent from the Triassic.

MOL will drill two appraisal wells at Bakrman and deploy an early production facility in 2015. Further wells in the work program will target Jurassic reservoirs.

Meanwhile, appraisal continues at Bijeel field, where early production could resume in early 2014 through a 10,000-b/d extended well test facility that has already been completed. The 10,000-b/d rate could be achieved by yearend 2014 through tie-in of the Bijeel-2, 4, and 6 wells.
