Max Petroleum PLC plans to test appraisal wells that encountered oil indications in Sagiz West and Uytas fields on the Guriyev arch in the North Caspian basin north of supergiant Tengiz field in western Kazakhstan.
The SAGW-9 well in Sagiz West field went to 1,440 m and is being cased. Electric logs indicated 39 m of net pay over a 79-m gross interval in the Triassic formation at 1,208-87 m measured depth. Porosities are 15-29%.
The Zhanros ZJ-30 rig will move to drill the SAGW-12 well in the southwestern part of the field, one of six wells remaining in the current appraisal program at Sagiz West.
The UTS-18 well in Uytas field went to 450 m. Logs indicated 5 m of net oil pay. The UTS-17 well went to 200 m and logged 3 m of net oil pay. Cretaceous Aptian reservoir quality is excellent at both wells, which the company plans to complete and place on production as soon as possible. Neither well encountered hydrocarbon shows in the shallow Albian section.
Next the company will drill the UTS-19 well targeting Cretaceous reservoirs with a vertical depth of 200 m. After UTS-19, one more well at UTS-20 remains to be drilled as part of the initial appraisal program in Uytas field.
