US refiners boost crude oil throughputs last week to their highest levels to date for the month of November, according to the latest data from the US Energy Information Administration.
Refinery inputs of crude oil were up by more than 100,000 b/d from the previous week to average nearly 15.6 million b/d overall for the week ending Nov. 22, the EIA’s Weekly Petroleum Status Report (WPSR), released on Nov. 27.
This ushered operable refinery utilization in the US to 89.4% of total operable capacity, which is the highest rate so far for the month of November.
The jump in crude oil throughputs resulted from increased runs from refiners in the East Coast (PADD 1), Midwest (PADD 2), and Rocky Mountains (PADD 4), with throughputs edging lower for refiners at the Gulf Coast (PADD 3) and West Coast (PADD 5), according to EIA data.
Gasoline production in the US rose to just over 9.4 million b/d for last week, with distillate fuel production also up on the week to average about 5 million b/d, EIA said.
