The RWE Dea Norge AS-operated 6608/2-1S exploratory well in the Norwegian Sea has identified an active petroleum system but did not encounter reservoir rocks and is being plugged, said partner Lundin Petroleum AB, Stockholm.
The 6608/2-1S Sverdrup wellsite is in PL330 offshore Norway, the first well on the license, about 60 km east-southeast of Aasta Hansteen gas field.
Alex Schneiter, chief operating officer of Lundin Petroleum, said, “Despite the results of this well we still believe the Utgard high has interesting exploration potential. We will review the results before determining our forward program.”
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 5,574 m below the sea surface and terminated in rocks of Lower Cretaceous age.
PL330 interests are RWE Dea Norge 40%, and Lundin Petroleum and Marathon Oil Norge AS 30% each.
